Reflections on Peace, Philosophy, and Life

He's Watching You

Fear of God? Why on Earth should I fear the Divine?

(Reading time: 2 - 3 minutes)

Strange expression, I find. "God-fearing"; "Fear God". It's an expression which seems prevalent in the Torah (Old Testament), as well as in the Quran. I've also read it in the Granth Sahib of the Sikhs.

I don't like using the word "God" myself, because there are so many differing and different associations with that word. I prefer the "Creative Power" or "The infinite Power".  However, in this particular article I'm going to use the word "God", as used by most religions I am aware of or which I've researched.

Pfizer Vaccine Announcement

Trying to please everybody, is not an option that works.

(Reading time: 2 - 4 minutes)

Reading the news regarding COVID around the world, it's easy to see what the drivers are in the political arena which decides on the measures to deal with the pandemic. The countries where politics puts people and their safety first are few and far between. For example, it looks as though Israel is looking after it's people - of course there is no altruism involved, but vote catching, as a new election is due in March.

Occam's Razor

Simplicity - it's far to complicated to understand, apparently.

(Reading time: 2 - 4 minutes)
According to Occam's razor, all other things being equal, the simplest theory is most likely true. In other words, simplicity is a meta-scientific criterion by which scientists evaluate competing theories.
This reflects my own view: "why complicated when simple will do".

A frightened and an angry face, left and right respectively.

What have all these well-known, public people, in common?

(Reading time: 2 - 3 minutes)

Putin, Erdogan, Xi Ping, Sisi, Khomeini, Kim Jong Un, Lukashenko, Salman, Modi and all others, et al.?

Answer: Fear is what they have in common. I'm sure the list is longer, but this is just to make a point.

Apocalypse Horses

Forerunners of the four horsemen of the apocalypse

(Reading time: 2 - 3 minutes)
Four figures in the Book of Revelation who symbolize the evils to come at the end of the world:
  • The figure representing conquest rides a white horse;
  • war, a red horse;
  • famine, a black horse; and
  • plague, a pale horse. They are often called the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
To me, the horsemen have forerunners and their names are:

November includes "Remembrance Day", at least in the UK

(Reading time: 2 - 3 minutes)
Today, the 8th of November, Remembrance Day is celebrated in many countries.
Wikipedia describes it as follows: "Remembrance Sunday is held in the United Kingdom as a day to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts. It is held at 11am on the second Sunday in November (the Sunday nearest to 11 November, Armistice Day, the anniversary of the end of hostilities in the First World War in 1918). Remembrance Sunday, within the Church of England, falls in the liturgical period of Allsaintstide."
